Another name has appeared along Changkat Bukit Bintang, and it appears that this Italian outlet is set to make a niche for itself. Nero Vivo, meaning Shining Life, is just 50 metres up the road from the busy rows of restaurants along Changkat Bukit Bintang, just in front of Menara Ceylon. It is a lovely set-up, within a single-storey semi-detached house, which has been refurbished as a modern-style Italian Tratoria.
Once there you will find Paolo Guiati, a fun and interesting Italian who will make your dining pleasant, if not exciting. The food here is very authentic Italian.
To start, go for the Rustic Antipasto Platter (RM56) good for two to four 4 people. It is a mixed starter comprising vittelo tonnato, grilled seafood salad, marinated vegetables, pickles, bruschetta and cheese. Starters or antipasti start from RM12.
Next on the list will be some good Italian pasta. Somehow all the pasta here are great and are cooked al-dente, which is Italian for just right (85% cooked). If you have been having your pasta cooked like our local noodles, which is 100% or more, then you haven’t had good Italian pasta. A must try. Prices from RM18.
If you think you are full after the pasta, then you are not dining like the Italians. Pasta is only part of dinner. You must try at least one of the main courses. Like any Italian restaurant, there are two types to choose from, di Mare (from the sea) or di Terra (from the land). If you have a big appetite, go for the Bistecca Fiorentina, which a T-bone is done in a traditional Florentine style. Main courses start from RM30.
For wines, Paolo has a great selection of some 100 types of Italian and other wine. Their house wines are noteworthy. A fruity and light white called Trentino Traminer Aromatico is a great aperitif or just go for the sparkling wine, an Italian Prosecco Fassi Marai. The latter is one I can drink all day. It’s refreshing, lovely and full of character. The house red is a Nero d’Avola, one that goes well with all Italian food.
All great dinners must end with great desserts or dolci. Here you get the regular Tiramisu, Crepe Suzette and some Italian ice cream. Go for the Trio Flan, Creme Brulee, Almond Panacotta or Chocolate Bunet. And lastly, to end your evening, have coffee and Grappa. There are 10 different Grappas to choose from. All great ones too. All I can say is Buono Appetito.
